Colonel William Chisholm was founded in 1857. He purchased 16 miles and 12 miles (now known as Bronte) of the creek estuary land from the people of Mississauga and granted the right to develop the land and left to his son Robert Kerr Chisholm, brother-in-law Thomas Merrick.
