King City, Ontario
King City is unincorporated, and it is one of the largest communities located in King Township. It has a population of almost 7,000 people. In 1890, James Whiting Crossley had incorporated King City when it merged the communities of Eversley, Laskay, Kinghorn, and Springhill. King City does not have its local government. Two councilors represent it in King Township. King City has also been a great filming location for several movies and tv shows. The most recognized ones being Billy Madison in 1995 when the gates of Mary Lake Shrine were filmed—followed by Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen in 2004.
King City is also home to an outdoor sculpture called Shift made by Richard Serra, who built it between 1970 and 1972. This sculpture is under the protection of the Ontario Heritage Act, and it can be found just south of the village. It gained protection when developers wanted it removed to build several developments. The King City Arena, along with the King City Community Center, have quite a few activities that can be done like the yoga classes and hockey league matches. There are also plenty of community events all through the year. These two places also sometimes host public meetings for the citizens of King City. There are also many activities for children to enjoy, like baseball, soccer, tennis, and boy’s and girl’s hockey leagues. There are also plenty of clubs that provide a great learning opportunity.
